Employees who work in the hospitality industry often over work themselves. They do not realize or take advantage of how significant paid time off is when working for a hotel. If employees use their paid time off, they are more likely to alleviate the stress that has been accumulating throughout their lifetime of working long hours each day. By their using paid time off, it will allow the employee to recharge his or her own performance while working. Those employees who take vacation say that they are a happier person upon returning back to work. This is important for employees to be happy because if the employees are happy, they are most likely to treat their own customers in a good way. This will benefit the company because customers are the reason for business and if they are treated excellently then they are most likely to come back to the company based on their personal experience and interaction with the employees.

However, if employees do not use their paid time off, they will likely affect the company negatively. According to the “Managing Hospitality Human Resources” book it mentions that stress in the hospitality industry is related to long and inconvenient hours, periods of high-pressure conditions that could possibly lead to burnout (384). “Some symptoms of burnout are emotional exhaustion, a tendency to depersonalize and become unresponsive to other people, and a low sense of personal achievement” (384). Those hospitality employees can seriously hurt themselves severely if they don’t take their stress condition seriously. According to the book, it also mentions, “stress can lead hospitality employees to cope with it in unhealthy ways” (384). According to the chapter 12 PowerPoint, “of employees who are overworked, 20% make a lot more mistakes than those who are not overworked, and 39% feel very angry toward their employer” (slide 9). Therefore, it is highly significant for employees to use their paid time off because it may decrease stress levels and allow employees to boost their personal performance when working.
